Working with the
public sector
With experience of working in local government, transport and the NHS, I have a wide knowledge of the public sector in the UK.
Different parts of the public sector have their own characteristics, but they do have important things in common, most importantly the need to work within tight legal and financial constraints. Ultimately, public sector bodies must (and should) respond to the needs of the general public and their elected representatives. In local government this relationship can be direct and I have worked with local councillors to deliver solutions within the many constraints in which they operate. In large organisations such as the NHS or Transport for London, this relationship is usually mediated by civil servants - but the same democratic tensions exist and I have helped to mediate them.
I have also provided services right across the public sector as a consultant. That has included working for organisations such as NHS England, the Arts Council, Sport England and regulatory bodies like General Medical Council and Nursing & Midwifery Council.
