What’s next?

It is very exciting to be starting a new business and a new phase of my career (... and it’s a bit scary too!). But what am I trying to achieve?

I like a challenge and doing something different - hence a varied career in transport, local government, the NHS and consultancy. What brings it all together though is that I enjoy writing - trying to express ideas as clearly as possible. In recent years, that has involved writing complex investigation reports, but has included everything from transport strategies to websites to minutes of NHS Board meetings.

There is real value in things that are well written. I am not talking about arcane arguments about grammar. We write to communicate things. If a piece of writing gets its message across, it is well written. If it doesn’t… well, what’s the point?

“Brevity”, Dr Johnson said, “is the soul of wit”. So I will stop here. As a great man used to say, what’s next?
