Working with charities
I have worked with charities - as a trustee, a volunteer and a consultant. I know how difficult it is for charities to meet the competing demands of financial pressures, staff management and legal requirements - while still keeping the needs of beneficiaries as the top priority. This balance is particularly difficult for smaller charities who often rely on a few highly motivated individuals who have to deal with issues across a wide range of fields.
As a consultant I have worked with charities writing governance documents, developing and reviewing risk registers and investigating HR issues. I have provided advice, templates and training to empower them to deliver sustainable change - always aware of the financial constraints that they face.
As someone with a particular interest in governance I have worked with charities to look at how their boards operate and crucial relationships such as that between the trustees and executives. Getting the right balance between independent non-executives and those who have the responsibility for running organisations day-to-day is key in all organisations. It is often a particularly difficult balance to strike in charities where there is such a passionate commitment to achieving charitable objectives. I work with charities to ensure that the interests of beneficiaries are front and centre.
